Origami Lamp

Partner: Hannah Dumancas

This Art Deco inspired lamp aim is to use the beauty of intricate origami folding techniques as the design’s main feature to replicate the captivating water fountains seen around luxury estates or gardens.

Design Process

A table lamp is selected for this project since it can work in multiple settings without the harshness of overhead light. Ideal for an office space, living room or a dining room. Elements of Art Deco are researched for the origami patterns and lamp base design.

Build Process

The origami is made from Japanese parchment paper. The material offers the perfect light translucency and diffusion. The lamp base is constructed with plywood that is laser cut. The lighting enclosure is made up of four hand frosted square tubes. Low-wattage, user replaceable string LEDs are internally routed through the tubes for lighting.

Final Design

Render of the lamp in a luxurious home or office setting.
